24th October - Footloose to the Clyde

The final footloose cruise of 2017 is a new itinerary combining the best Argyll and the Firth of Clyde have to offer.  Scenic mainland walks and island vistas combine to make this an inspiring end to the walking year.

24th October 2017.

We set sail from Oban for the final time this season and anchored off Tayvallich overnight.

25th October 2017.

Guests went ashore at the pretty fishing village of Tayvallich on Loch Sween for tomorrow morning walks and strolls.

The ship berthed alongside at Campbeltown overnight.

26th October 2017.

From Campbeltown our Footloose walkers disembarked for a full day walk to Carradale and the Kintyre Way.

The strollers enjoyed a morning tour of the Kintyre Peninsula including Saddell Abbey.

In the afternoon the ship anchored off Tarbert, Loch Fyne, where the strollers explored on foot and the walkers rejoined the vessel.

The ship anchored off Lochranza, Isle of Arran overnight.

27th October 2017.

From Lochranza the walkers strode out on a full day walk over the northern mountain ridge for the east coast of the island, on route to North Sannox, rejoining the ship in Brodick in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, the strollers enjoyed a tour and tasting at the Lochranza Distillery, followed by an afternoon tour of the island from Brodick which included Brodick Castle Gardens.

We berthed alongside overnight in Largs.

28th October 2017.

This morning a coach was arranged to enable the walkers to explore the Ardgowan Estate on foot, whilst the strollers were treated to a tour of Ardgowan House where owner Ludo regaled them with amazing tales of the history of its castle, house and family links with Robert the Bruce.

Following lunch on board guests departed on the the CalMac ferry from Largs to Great Cumbrae for afternoon walks at Millport or a visit the ‘Cathedral of the Isles’. Alternatively, free time was available to explore Largs independently.

We anchored overnight in Holy Loch.

29th October 2017.

Guests were tendered ashore at Holy Loch Marina this morning where the options were a walk at Puck’s Glen or a visit to Benmore Botanic Gardens, ahead of a relaxing afternoon on board cruising Loch Long and Loch Goil on passage towards our overnight anchorage off Greenock.


30th October 2017.

This morning we arrived and berthed alongside at Custom House Quay in Greenock from where the Footloose walkers disembarked for a full day walk from Loch Thom along Greenock Cut.

The strollers enjoyed a stretch of legs at the Loch Thom nature Reserve and visited the Greenock Cut Visitor Centre in the morning.  In the afternoon the strollers visited Finlaystone House and Gardens and the walkers re-joined the vessel. 

The Farewell Gala Dinner was held at anchor off Greenock.

31st October 2017.

After a short early morning sail we arrived at Greenock Ocean Terminal where disembarkation took place.
